The Ebling family has long been interested in tractors. The family patriarch, Gary Ebling, grew up on the farm near Northfield, Minnesota, and remembered watching an Aultman & Taylor Co. Model 22-45 tractor leading a threshing outfit in the neighborhood.

Dale Cook is a fourth-generation Ontario farmer with a friendly personality, easy laugh, and humble demeanor, although he owns a tractor that could make other collectors envious. Cook’s 1969 Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Co. Model Two-Twenty is a fine example of this rather rare model, but its low serial no. of 1026 makes it even more special. Between 1969 and 1972, beginning with serial no. 1004, the A-C factory in West Allis, Wisconsin, produced 1,765 two-wheel-drive units like Cook’s, plus 100 with front-wheel assist beginning in June 1970.

Jerry Neal, the owner of our featured 1957 John Deere & Co. Model 620 LP-Gas Orchard tractor is a co-founder of one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing companies in the world, R.F. Micro Devices Inc., now Qorvo. He and his wife Linda established Linbrook Heritage Estate in Trinity, North Carolina, in 2007 as a working farm and forest to preserve North Carolina’s farming heritage and industrial legacy, as well as conserve the forests and farmland. The 500-acre estate is home to the following four museums.

Once the 100-horsepower barrier had been breached, tractor builders quickly moved up the power scale. In the early 1970s, the International Harvester Co. had a line of heavy rear-wheel-drive tractors in the 66-series. The largest, the Model 1566, produced over 140 drawbar horsepower. This series was updated in 1976 to the 86-series tractors.

Farm power glows green on the Stebbins Farm because the owners, Steve and Diana Stebbins, prefer Oliver tractors above all others. According to Diana, “95 percent of our 17 tractors are Olivers or from the Oliver line, including a couple of Averys and three Oliver crawlers.” The giant in the fleet, our featured 1972 Model 2655, dwarfs the smallest in their stable, a Model 60.
